since being out in new york, each year tyler and i look forward to escaping the city and flying back to minnesota. we go back for usually 10 days to enjoy a long vacation with tyler's family relaxing in grand marais - a small, charming town resting on lake superior. tyler's grandparents have a cabin up there where they graciously let us all stay. it is just the best time every year i have gone. tyler has been going his whole life and i feel so fortunate to be a part of these trips now :) and you guys, tyler's family is so much fun! how many people can all say they genuinely enjoy hanging out with their s/o's family? not many, i know that!
any who, i don't think i've ever done a blog post on grand marais (at least not that i can remember!), so i thought this would be a great chance to share some of the pics taken on the trip. if you are ever in the northern part of minnesota, i highly recommend you make the trip! it is about a 4 (maybe 5?) hour car ride from minneapolis, so it definitely isn't a day trip kinda situation!
ok, so i know this is a picture of me holding doughnuts, but i feel it is my due-diligence to make it an annual tradition where i go out and buy way too many doughnuts before we all make the trip to grand marais. this is how it goes: i force tyler to drive me to bogarts on the morning of our departure (best OG doughnut place in minnie), i buy a dozen doughnuts, bring them back, everyone is in awe/questions my judgement of why i got so many doughnuts, i just stare back at everyone in awe/judgement of why they think this is a lot of doughnuts (WE ARE 6 PEOPLE!), everyone has maybe 1 doughnut, we look around to see if anyone can force another down, we shamelessly toss the rest out, feel really guilty about it and then we leave! so ya, donna and scott, if you're reading this, this is now going to be an annual "thing" ;)
ok, now some actual pics of our trip!
ok last but not least, the annual selfie pic! these trips are so much fun it is almost cliche. donna (tyler's mom) and i were bopping around town one day and she pointed out a cute handcrafted sign that said "things to do up north: star gaze, relax, have a fire, play games, spend time with family, make smores, go on a hike, sleep in" and i looked at her and said "we literally have done all of those things!!". and we do that every year i've been in attendance. each year it is the same thing with slight variances which is just perfect. it is just the best time and makes you slow down to appreciate the simple things like spending time with people you care about. as i mentioned, i love being with tyler and his family and i can hardly wait for the years to come. people just need to stop getting older though, that i would be ok with. and everyone can move back in with tyler's parents (it's fine you guys, i already asked!).
